Signs, Symptoms, and Treatments of Mesothelioma - Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma Related Lawsuit Claims

Asbestos cancer mesothelioma is an aggressive and deadly cancer. If you have ever been exposed to asbestos and have been diagnosed with asbestos cancer mesothelioma, you may be eligible for an asbestos cancer mesothelioma lawsuit claim.

Asbestos cancer or mesothelioma is known as one of the most dangerous types of cancer. This asbestos cancer typically affects the lining of the abdomen and lungs. Asbestos cancer mesothelioma is an aggressive and deadly cancer caused by exposure to asbestos fibers. Asbestos exposure usually occurs by inhalation of airborne asbestos fibers. Asbestos cancer mesothelioma signs and symptoms and other asbestos-related cancers symptoms only emerge decades after exposure to asbestos. Asbestos cancer mesothelioma is a type of carcinoma where malignant cells are found in the mesothelium, a protective lining of most of internal organs. Malignant asbestos cancer mesothelioma is the most serious of all asbestos-related diseases. Most people who develop asbestos cancer mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they have had inhaled asbestos fibers. Once asbestos fibers are inhaled, they become trapped in organs such as the lungs. These fibers can lead to the development of asbestos cancer mesothelioma decades later. One may not even be aware that he or she is suffering from this health condition, until detected.

It is often difficult to diagnose asbestos cancer mesothelioma due to its long latency period; symptoms of asbestos cancer mesothelioma may not appear for 30 to 50 years after exposure to asbestos. Although uncommon, asbestos cancer mesothelioma is no longer considered rare. Some of the symptoms of asbestos cancer mesothelioma are very similar to the normal symptoms of other health conditions.

Moreover, diagnosing the asbestos cancer mesothelioma in the early stages is not quite possible as the symptoms resemble any other normal health condition. Mesothelioma cancer symptoms that a patient exhibits may vary according to the type of mesothelioma cancer involved. Common asbestos cancer mesothelioma symptoms include breathing difficulty, coughing of blood, abdominal swelling, night sweats, fever, and unexplained weight loss.

Types of Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma

Like most other forms of cancer, asbestos cancer mesothelioma is separated into two groups, malignant and benign. Rarely is mesothelioma benign, so frequently any mention of the condition refers to its malignant state known as a tumor. A malignant tumor will grow and expand, and can spread cancerous cells into other cells of the body.

There are two types of mesothelioma – one is peritoneal mesothelioma and the other one is pleural mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma cancer is a disease that affects the lining of the abdomen or peritoneum. Pleural mesothelioma cancer affects the lining of the lung and chest cavity known as the pleura. Pleural mesothelioma cancer (or lung mesothelioma) is more widespread than peritoneal mesothelioma cancer.

Signs and Symptoms of Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma

Asbestos cancer mesothelioma signs and symptoms vary slightly depending on where the cancer has originally developed, although you will also notice there are many overlapping symptoms found in most of the cases regardless of the original location of tumor. Although not as common, asbestos cancer mesothelioma has also been found to develop in other areas other than the abdomen or chest including around the heart.

Often with mesothelioma cancer, a rare form of asbestos cancer, the symptoms felt in the early stages may be so slight that many do not think there is adequate reason to seek medical care. In some cases, there may be no early symptoms experienced at all. Asbestos cancer mesothelioma usually remains undiagnosed or missed, and can sometimes remain without being detected for years.

However, early signs and symptoms of malignant asbestos cancer mesothelioma can include the following: Fever, nausea, difficulty swallowing, fatigue, right- or left-sided chest pain, or loss of appetite. Weight loss is seen in many patients. Mainly, the problems are lung related like lung collapse. Blood clots in veins are observed in the last stages of this cancer. Atrophy is another significant symptom. Patients become anemic as the heart has to put in extra pumping for releasing oxygen. The walls of the abdominal cavity are filled with fluids, which makes digestive process difficult. There is swelling and severe pain in the abdomen because of the tumor growth in the abdominal cavity. Bleeding of other organs and body parts is also noted.

Depending on the type of mesothelioma cancer diagnosed – pleural or peritoneal – signs and symptoms might vary from the above, which pertain mostly to pleural mesothelioma cancer, the most common form of the cancer. If an individual experiences any of the signs and symptoms mentioned above, then they need to get in touch with the physician without delay.

Treatment for Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma

A cancer is a condition in which cells are damaged at the DNA level and then when they replicate, the cells are then damaged, causing pain, illness, and tumors. Making a correct mesothelioma diagnosis is particularly difficult for doctors because the disease does not respond well to therapy. However, there are many clinical trials underway for experimental drugs designed to treat asbestos cancer mesothelioma. Mesothelioma cancer patients should speak to their doctors about participating in these clinical trials.

Asbestos cancer mesothelioma builds up stage by stage. There are four stages of Mesothelioma cancer. Clear-cut detection of the mesothelioma cancer stage is important for the purpose of successful treatment. In the first stage of mesothelioma, the cancer is local to its point of origin in an organ. The first stage of mesothelioma cancer is the forming of a tumor in the lungs lining. The cancer has spread to the chest cavity and heart in the second stage. In the third stage, mesothelioma cancer has usually spread to more distant areas. It begins to affect the digestive system and the abdominal activity. The cancer mesothelioma can be found in the most remote areas of the body as it enters in the fourth stage. All the body organs are affected quickly. Early asbestos cancer mesothelioma detection makes it easy for the patient to respond to the treatment.

CT scans are widely used to diagnose this condition. Asbestos cancer mesothelioma can be highly distressing as the signs and symptoms are very much alike the other malignant cancers.

Chemotherapy and Surgical Treatment for Asbestos Cancer Mesothelioma

In order to stop the spread of asbestos cancer mesothelioma in the body, most doctors will prescribe radiation and chemotherapy treatments. Treatment combination such as surgery to remove cancer cells as much as possible, and chemotherapy to prevent those cells from dividing themselves are types of treatments that are widely used. There is no known cure for asbestos cancer mesothelioma, but treatments such as mesothelioma radiation and chemotherapy have helped to improve the typical mesothelioma prognosis. If the cells can be destroyed via radiation, chemotherapy, or other treatments, the asbestos cancer mesothelioma cancer can be cured.

One of the best treatments for asbestos cancer mesothelioma is chemotherapy. It is generally given as two drugs at the same time, but can be more. This treatment is used to destroy cancer cells. Chemotherapy can be used before a patient is to have surgery by helping to reduce a tumor, and to help with destroying cells that remain after the surgery. Chemotherapy is used to enhance radiation and immunotherapy to work better. Chemotherapy is also used when cancer cells have spread from the origin of tumor and where surgery is not an option. There are of course side effects involved with chemotherapy.

Sometimes, the only thing which can be done to help asbestos cancer mesothelioma is to remove the tumors which are spreading in the body. Surgery for asbestos cancer mesothelioma is used to remove parts of the body which are cancerous. This also depends on where the cancer is situated. Surgery is usually used in conjunction with other types of treatments. This may be more effective before the cancer has spread throughout the body.

Intriguing. I worked in a dairy foods industry years ago and our 'break room' was really a converted refrigeration locker. Some masked workers came in to 'remove the ceiling and wall insulation' and nothing more was explained. The break room was never 'off limits' to the workers during this week-long insulation tile removal. Heck, -we'd use it for breaks and lunch. -Just sweep the powdery dust & debris off of the picnic tables and the room was used. ...we only found out that the insulation tiles (about 4-feet square, some 2-inches thick & glued to the walls) were in fact, composed of asbestos. The company never told any of us that this was asbestos and never advised or advertised to NOT use the break room! This is the kind of arrogance that gets people killed. It's been over ten+ years ago now and so far, I'm still okay but you don't know with asbestos how long it takes to do the damage.

Asbestos was everywhere in buildings when I was growing up. Thanks for this informative article.
